as a member of the bene gesserit sisterhood, jessica has a few abilities that center around mental compulsion. through rigorous training, jessica has honed an aptitude for the following skills:
THE VOICE. requires specific vocal frequencies, and an understanding of a character's levels of suggestibility. jessica can override a person's will with by finding the right verbal register and issuing a verbal command.
a character's awareness of this depends on the intensity/force behind the order — jessica is able to take the more subtle approach of influencing a person to believe, unconsciously, her orders are their own. however, a more powerful, aggressive command — or overriding the will of someone more resistant — will make them aware they're being controlled/puppeted.
TRUTHSENSE. a little bit on the nose as a name, jessica has the ability to detect a truth from a lie, and a multitude of other things. (are the vibes rancid?)
jessica could be able to distinguish if a character is hiding something from her, their overall mood, etc. this is done by studying words/tone indicators, facial expressions, and in certain circumstances, jessica might be able to sense changes in breathing, pulse rate, and perspiration, among other physiological signs.
this ties in with jessica's advanced skills in PERCEPTION. in addition to the above, she might be able to divine a person's ulterior motives, their current emotional state, if they're hiding weapons on their person, if they're impersonating someone else, etc.

Charles Xavier has been teaching him some psychic shielding techniques, but he only has a few months under his belt. So I think he may be able to put up a small sexy amount of resistance and/or notice it's happening, it would not be a lot of work for Jessica.

He moves pretty gracefully, like a guy who's done a ton of pilates, and has 10+ years of practice in yogic breathing techniques (which means he has unusual levels of control over his breath and heart rate, among other things).

Best approach would be fast, it doesn't matter if it's kind or aggressive.
Orin has stats known as 'Perfect Sentry' and 'Magical Resistance' which add up to being very difficult to surprise and impose magical effects on--but not impossible. Orin is also batshit crazy and that leaves a nice wide opportunity for shenanigans. She is likely not to notice subtle manipulation if it's masked well enough (her God has been doing it her whole life!!) but a gentle approach may be slightly more effective as she's very trigger happy and extremely willing to commit violence.
Nick theoretically should have more mental fortitudes in place as a witch, but he's a failman and didn't study :( He's not likely to pick up on anything except the most obvious attempts at manipulation, and aggressive or subtle approaches are likely to both be equally, wildly successful.
